Author Spotlight - Kathy speaking to DXB Today on Dubai One TV

With the 2025 Emirates Airlines festival of Literature kicking off, the spotlight is on authors this week. πŸ“šAuthors and their booksπŸ“š

It was both an honour and a true pleasure to speak on Dubai One TV's programme DXB Today about mine. Making books comes from a place of passion for reading and writing and essentially making up stories - something I have done for as long as I can remember. Now nearly three years into author life and I have four books published - another one translated - and a new one out later this year. All of this wouldn’t have happened without a great support network - most and foremost my family - but also a growing community of fellow writers that cheer you on - and last but not least this wonderful place I call home and its people that are embracing my stories.

Thank you Dubai - to all your little readers that I have met at school and book events, who enjoy reading my stories - and now watching too aboard Emirates - love to you all. Thank you for shining a spotlight on my stories about wandering toy bunnies and buzzy little bees. This was fun !! Kathy x

I’m beyond excited to share that β€˜Storytime with Lola and Friends’, a brand-new children’s entertainment channel, featuring all of my children’s books, will be launching this January exclusively on Emirates Airlines award-winning ICE entertainment system!

I am lucky to have worked with some incredibly talented people on this and who made sure that I keep getting goosebumps every time I watch these stories.

I hope you’ll feel the same. So if you do find yourself aboard an EK flight these coming mnths - have a wee peak at the Kids TV Pre-School section and let me know what you think.

From Page to Stage

Hop Lola Hop at the Emirates LitFest 2023

Hop Lola Hop - the adventures of a missing toy bunny - Lola - turned into a fun and interactive theatrical performance fit for little story lovers and their own cuddly toys.

Directed by Gregory Lunn, the cast is made up of Emma Oberberg, Tabata Alejandra Lopez Ulloa, and Ellie Pinkerton as Lola, who was the female lead in the Courtyard’s summer performance of David Mamet’s β€˜Oleanna’. Emma Oberberg is Kathy's daughter whose own toy rabbit was what inspired Kathy to create Lola's adventures.

'When I began writing Lola's story, I never imagined our little bunny would one day hop on stage. It was an incredible experience as we got to entertain children in an entirely different way.

For Kind Little Hands Everywhere …

You make me hopeful. Kathy

A chance encounter sparks a heart-warming rescue mission, as a young boy, Noah, tries to revive a tired bee which he finds on the streets of a busy city. A touching, uplifting story, highlighting the importance of nature in urban settings and offering young readers the opportunity to explore how to be active citizens and caring individuals in an ever-changing world.

I am excited to share the news that I have teamed up with Buglife - the Invertebrate Conservation Trust to support their vital work in restoring pollinator habitats areas across the UK.

Buglife is the only organisation in Europe that dedicates its work to the conservation of all invertebrates, including bees, butterflies, spiders and other creatures vital to maintain our ecosystem. Buglife is spearheading the β€˜B-lines’ recovery network, which aims to reconnect isolated wildflower-rich habitats in urban and rural areas to help pollinators roam more freely.

THANK YOU 🫢 EVERYONE

… Friends, mums and dads and the little ones - especially the little ones - for joining me on my latest reading adventure at Bookworm Dubai this weekend.

Together we embarked on a bee saving 🐝 rescue mission - learned that bees indeed have five eyes … and that they love love LOVE to waggle - because who wouldn’t love to dance around a beautiful garden of flowers. 🌺 🌺🌸🌷

A special thank you goes to the beautiful Meriem - The Bee Fairy - for joining and supporting Saturday’s book launch of β€˜Kind Little Hands’ with lots of interesting facts about 🐝 and giving everyone a chance to see her busy bees at work.
Little ones were in for a treat to taste locally produced honey from Hatta Honey Bee Garden.

I am very grateful for the support and encouragement the entire Bookworm team continue to provide in both my author journey and making events like this one happen.

Thank you also to Emaar for their support on the day and bringing joy and fun to the heart of our wonderful community.

Love to you all 🫢. Kathy

PS - Copies of Kind Little Hands are now available across Bookworm branches. If you stop by Bookworm Umm Suqueim do take a minute to read all the beautiful messages that have been left on our wall of kindness. We’d love for you to contribute too!
